Bigfoot Eats

What Bigfoot eats is still basically conjecture. Plenty of reasearchers have picked through nasty piles of what is obstensively BF scat and while they report things like partially digested berries, leafy vegetable matter, tufts of rodent fur and small bones, unless a group of individuals actually sees and records for posterity the actual act of the Big one taking a big dump, those piles of poop could be from bears, or even possibly humans.
If you ask seven people on the trail what Bigfoot eats, you will likely get very different answers.
'Bigfoot likes to eat mainly berries, nuts, and fruits. I would imagine he also eats fish and possibly small game mammals. He seems to be a peaceful sort of a guy though so I would think he would be more of a vegetarian.'
'There are no documented sightings of bigfoots eating people, but bigfoots can eat you.'
'He actually eats like a tramp.'
'People! mostly kids or babies there is bigfoot babies that can eat a newborn baby in 2 bites, Bigfoot will eat kids in 1 bite or deer, fish and horses!'
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
See what I mean?
Let's assume you are a creature the size of a two refridgerators stacked two high.
Weighing roughly the same as those refers, it would seem that you might require a pretty high caloric intake to be able to continue to exist, so it could be a safe bet to say that you are omnivorous.
Nuts, berries, wild onions and skunk cabbage, are easy pickings and all make for a fine salad, but you will have to expend energy in order to obtain meat, just the way that all animals have since millenia.  Rodents are pretty scant for caloric sustenance, but a few popped into your big mouth might give you enough energy to chase down a much more substantial meal like a deer.
Deer figure into the BF witness accounts quite heavily, (oddly, as opposed to Elk or even Moose, which would seem like a better pay off in terms of total meat yield for energy expended),

Other primates like Great Apes are vegetarian, eating leaves and shoots,  while Chimps actually will chase down and kill smaller primates as food sources. Orangutans will eat grubs and small insects and reportedly even small animals while humans (as evidenced by my buddy Psycho Jack and shows like 'Iron Chef' ) will eat nearly anything.
At habituation sites around the nation, Sasquatch baiters use all manner of goodies to lure the Hairy ones within trail cam range, including candy, beef jerky, jelly-filled donuts, phermone-laced fabric, and even full grown women.  It is strange only insofar as more regular old drunken campers have not been caught on camera seeking these prizes.

Bigfoot, not so much. He apparently has more will power, mostly eschewing the twinkies for a mitt full of blackberries, and the stories of Deer kills continue to abound.
So if Bigfoot will eat nearly anything, just like humans, he might well choose his food based on his ability to consume it easily, right?

Wrong.
Berries are a no-brainer, but deer must be prepared, at least portioned down since even Bigfoot's big yap is not big enough to eat a Deer whole, Python-style.
How does he do it?

He RIPS it apart, he tears it wide open, while it's still alive. Yeesh!  That doesn't sound like the gentle, giant hairy forest dude that vegans prefer.  Descriptions of Bigfoot don't include claws and only rarely have I read about the sharp teeth necessary to rip flesh in order to make it swallowable. But he is apparently doing it, and doing it with panache and speed.

Let's try to imagine a deer about the size of a big Great Dane and compare that to the size of a typically described Bigfoot hand, which comes in at about the size of a regulation baseball glove, with fingers like Kielbasa sausages.

It would have to be much like a regular grown man tearing into a Chihuahua, no tools allowed.
Messy, and hard to do by any stretch. (forgive the pun.)

For me, I believe the Big Ones probably do eat deer venison, as well as the aforementioned berries, swamp cabbage and rodents, but there is something *fishy about the vivisection aspect.

*(As an aside, why no strong reports of fish eating BFs?  Strange.)

We suspect that the Bigfoot people are not tool users, as it has never been observed, nor have any tools been found, and this by itself is strange. Chimps use sticks to pull termites from their mounds while Capuchin Monkeys have been found using stones to crack open nuts and oysters, ala early man. Even some species of Ants will drop pebbles down the entrances of rival colonies nests to block them from competing for food.
My own precious dog has figured out how to pull the table cloth down enough to get to the butter tub, and amazingly, has taught the other, not so precious dog to do it as well.

Remember, this is a creature that, reportedly can chuck a rock from deep brush, over twenty feet in complete darkness and hit a lantern on picnic table, more than once. (You try it, Joe.)
So how does this animal, who by many accounts possesses a high level of intelligence, get at the animal protein contained in a deer carcass without benefit of anything sharper than a worn-down canine incisor?
Your turn..

More Bigfoot at The Beach (New!)

Ok, hot from the fresh archives of the BFRO we have another terrifically interesting witness account of something inexplicable that may be a Bigfoot, occurring very near a previous, superb account of a sleeping Sasquatch in a beach resort community on the Washington Coast. The follow up investigation by Scott Taylor includes a really fascinating ‘baby bigfoot’ sighting.
Read it, with my comments at the end:

Report # 41111  (Class B)
Submitted by witness on Friday, May 10, 2013.

Woman standing on her elevated deck is approached from underneath by something large near Ocean Shores

YEAR: 2009
SEASON: Summer
MONTH: July
DATE: 26
STATE: Washington
COUNTY: Grays Harbor County
NEAREST TOWN: Ocean Shores

‘OBSERVED: It was 3 a.m., I having hard time sleeping went out onto 2nd floor deck which is about 10+ feet high. The house is on the Ocean side so critters and brush moving is normal but this night was different, it was very dark and too quiet, not even a frog croaking. I heard an extra amount of brush rustling then normal, then a high pitched animal screamed out, which I now identify as a rabbit in great distress (I put out food for the wild rabbits). A short span of silence then something stumbled or fell and let out a deep moan. I rain into the house to grab a flashlight and went back out on the deck. As I was trying to find the switch for the dang ancient lantern type flashlight I heard more brush moving, then 4 loud thuds on this fake wooden dock that's on the northern edge on the lot. The dock goes into the brush where fresh water collects during rain season and just ends, is about 20 feet long and begins at the edge of the yard which is also the NW corner of the deck support. Four thudding stomps then off the dock onto the lawn, two more stomps and the creature stopped directly below me standing above on the deck. I froze, it froze and then it started smelling me! Deep long inhales, short outs, I could not see much thru the deck boards just something dark and big and frankly it was so frightening that this creature was just a foot or so underneath me below my feet. I said screw the lantern and ran for the house.

Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Scott Taylor:
I called the reporting witness on 5/11/12. This location is the last row of homes between the beach and other dwellings. From the back deck, one can see the ocean. The deck is a measured 11’ from the grass below. There is no access to the deck from ground level. One has to go through the house to get there. There is very dense brush between the house and the dunes near the water. The height of this brush is approximately 15 feet.. She said that their dog had been recently been alerting to something out behind their house. She said that the previous week, they had seen eyes looking over the bushes at them.

I asked about the reported occurrence, which happened back in July 22-28, 2009. She said that she had heard what sounded like a screaming rabbit that was being killed. They have wild rabbits that she puts food out for. It was dark outside. She went out on the deck in her nightgown to see what was going on. When she did so, something very large, with heavy foot-steps, walked from the brush, up a fake dock at ground level and right under her. She was standing roughly in the center of the deck. The creature was inhaling deeply and then rapidly exhaling, then another long inhale. She said that it was scenting her. The deck boards are ½ inch apart. She felt that its face was only about 1 foot below her. She had a very old, 1950s style battery lantern, and she was so flustered that she could not get it on, so she ran back into the house.

On 5/12/13, I drove over to the location. This location is only a half mile from the Report #40381location, so they might be related. During the interview, she mentioned that she had seen a small, hairy animal that she likened to a “Tasmanian Devil cartoon character”. I asked her more questions about it, as she had never mentioned that before. She said that she was again up on the deck, looking into the cleared lot to the north, when this little thing came out of the brush, ran toward her along the edge of the brush about 20 feet, spun around a couple of times as if deciding which way to go, and then ran into the brush. She did not know if it saw her. She said it was about the size of a dog, had no tail, moved like a monkey, and was very fast. She grew up in rural Washington, and knows the common animals that live here. This was nothing she could identify. I have heard that description from at least four other people at four different locations. All these locations are associated with sasquatch habituation sites. This may be a very young sasquatch.

I did a survey of the property. The brush is very thick. One can go 2 feet inside and vanish. The two main bedrooms have large windows that face the back of the property and they are on the ground floor. The blinds are the type that give privacy during the day, but at night, with the lights on inside, one can see into the room. From the brush, a creature could see in either window. Also there is a linear line of brush, probably 7 feet tall that parallels the back of the home about 30' away. Behind this row of brush is an open area. At either end of the open area is a bird-house on a 10’ pole. I found that a creature could stand there and watch the people on the deck, or inside the large living room space on the second floor. There are windows clear across the back, and along the sides of the home. I was able to go back into that space and look back at the house. It is an ideal spot to view the people inside the home yet remain behind cover.

The following weekend, 5/18/13, I was invited back. The sister who is the actual owner was there. They said that they had found little hand-prints in the sand where the little creature was seen. Personally, I could not see it. However, I did go ahead and cast one of what they thought might be a hand print, which I left with them. We all three made a more extensive trip into the brush behind the home. I found nothing to indicate that any sasquatches had been there in near past. Later, after dark, the sister and I made a night walk to the beach, then back-tracked to the first row of dunes, where we climbed up on top. We stood there for about 15 minutes, observing back towards the homes. Seeing nothing, we then walked back to the house. From the house, we walked the road in a south direction for about ¾ of a mile. There are many homes which were not occupied, and were dark. I noticed several places where it looked like a large animal was crossing the road. There were cave-like openings in the brush on either side of the road. There were also few street lamps, which would make unseen movement in the dark quite easy.

Later, I went over to visit the witness from report 40381. He said that some people had come over to talk with him. They wanted him to have me call them. One of the people answered my call. They have not filed a report and do not wish to. They only live ¼ of a mile north of the witness who submitted this report. This is why I am including this information.

I initially talked to the husband. He said that they were taking some pictures of driftwood out near the beach, and they found a set of very large tracks. There were five tracks. No pictures were taken. Then, he had me talk to his wife.

She has a habit of going out on their deck to smoke at night. She reported hearing vocalizations that she could not identify coming from the SE, which would be the direction of the witness from report 40381. This was at the same time of year as the activity there. She said that they were mournful “Waaaaaaaaaaaaa” vocalizations. They didn’t know what they were, and wanted to tell someone.

Then, she mentioned that something killed a deer in the cleared vacant lot to the north of their property. She said that she didn’t know what it was. I asked her more questions about it. She described it as running on all fours. It was hair covered. It had no tail. I asked about the face; did it have a snout like a bear? She said that it was “mushed-in”. She said it was much bigger than a wolf. It upset her because it took a long time for the deer to die. As the creature left the lot waking on two hind legs and one fore-leg, it was holding part of the deer in the other. She said that she yelled at it. It just turned its head and looked at her and kept going. I asked about the eyes. She said that they were “piercing”. It then went out of sight. In the morning, she called the city to come remove the deer carcass, which they did.

Based on the proximity to Report 40381, and the phone-report from nearby, there is clearly a pattern of likely sasquatch activity in this area. Although it has quite a lot of houses, I noticed that most are not occupied. They are also surrounded by very dense brush. There is ample cover to hide a large nocturnal creature, and it is dark enough that they could move about without much chance of being seen. The cave-like openings in this brush indicate that something larger than deer is using them. This is another example of how close they can live to people without being observed.’
What a great story, huh? The previous report Taylor references is listed here on Bizarre Bigfoot too (see ‘Bigfoot at The Beach – April 18), as Taylor suggests that this could be the same creature in both reports. So, what the heck is this creature doing hanging around in a residential neighborhood? Yes, it’s a seasonal town with far less people in the winter, but both reports happened in the summer. This, my friends, is a curious Bigfoot. He’s a bit of a peeping Harry too, from the description. The area he is frequenting I have been too many times over the years.

It’s a lovely, fully platted beach town with many homes dotting the sandy peninsula and in summer it is fairly heavily used. Should we imagine that this very large bipedal critter is sleeping in the scotchbroom all day? That he feeds on deer occasionally (there are not many good sources of edible vegetable matter on the brackish canals and salty sand dunes there), and is so confident and at ease in this neighborhood that he snoozes in the backyard during the day and enjoys sniffing woman from close proximity at night? Yikes!

My wife and I recently purchased a small fixer-upper beach cabin on the Washington Coast and on the first trip to sign the papers, we took an alternate route, a short-cut, to the house.  On a side road (Joe Johns Road) I spotted this sign mounted on a fence post:

It could just be the silly imagination of the landowner that prompted him to have these signs made, or he may have a reason for including the image of an hairy, knuckle-dragging biped.  I dug a bit deeper once I got home to the computer and found the following report from the area of our new vacation place:
Report # 26440 (Class B)
Submitted by witness on Monday, August 17, 2009. Hitchhiker hears loud vocalization just outside Ilwaco
YEAR: 1979

SEASON: Summer

MONTH: July

DATE: 15

STATE: Washington

COUNTY: Pacific County

NEAREST TOWN: IIwaco,Wa.

NEAREST ROAD: 101

OBSERVED: I have never spoke to anyone about the night that my friend that I will call Joe and me left Long Beach Wa. on State Route 101. Walking with our packbacks that probably weighed about 70 lbs. a piece. We left Seattle thinking that we were going all the way to Santa Cruz, Ca. However we did not plan on leaving in the middle of the night from Long Beach... we had a room that we were hanging out with a couple of girls we had met earlier at the bar. Well after a few hours of drinking things suddenly turned nasty. So Joe and I decided that it was best to get out of town. We had Astoria, Oregon on our next desination stop. However we had no idea we would be heading there in the middle of the night. It was late July so we had no problem worrying about rain or cold weather. It was a crystal clear night walking down Hwy. 101 at around 2:30 in the morning. We were trying to hitch hike but at that time in the early morning there was not much traffic. We walked for miles, however we were relieved just knowing we got out of town and away from those wicked girls. Whew ! So now we have walked to IIwaco, Wa. and it's pitch black out. The only light we had to go by was the light of the stars above. It was a beautiful sight. We were laughing and joking when suddenly we heard a growl that instantly stood the hairs on our neck up in a frenzy. Joe nor I had ever heard such a growl like what we heard that night. It was frightening and I thought that it just might be the end. I looked at Joe and he looked at me, and I swear all I could see was the whites of his eyes. We took off running as fast as we could. 70 lb. packbacks and our tail between our legs. We must have ran for a mile at least ! If not more. We were absolutely terrorfied! To this day I will never forget that night and what that might have been out there in the marshland by Fort Canby State Park. To this day when I think about it...I still get chills.'

This report, followed up by top-notch BFRO researcher Scott Taylor occurred at the opposite end of the peninsula where are cabin is, but the tidbit below from an anecdote about Paul Freeman is only a couple of miles from our place:
"Went to Longbeach, WA, March 3rd, 2002 and visited with Paul Freeman. Despite a recent foot amputation, he was in good spirits, and had a multitude of things to say concerning his finding Bigfoot and signs of his presence in the Walla Walla watershed.
Around Longview, Paul noted, Bigfoot tracks have been found at low tide in the clam beds near Ledbetter Point, on the North end of the Long Beach Peninsula. Also, he says that on the mainland adjacent to the sound, tracks have been found at low tide in the oyster beds."
